Nettleham Bowls Club | Update | Winter 2016
The bowling season has now finished and the green has been ‘put to bed’ for the winter – although work will still continue.
The season finished in a similar fashion to how it had begun back in April – rain, rain and more rain!
We were due to finish with a ‘fun day’, including a game of bowls followed by a buffet tea, but as the rain just didn’t stop all day, the bowling was replaced with one of Derek’s famous quizzes.
Again, on work day, the rain absolutely tipped it down, but it didn’t deter a group of ‘enthusiastic’ members who worked tirelessly throughout the morning.
Over the season we did manage to complete the list of club competitions and the prizewinners from the final four appear here. Special thanks to Paul Wicklen who organised all of the competitions.
Every Friday throughout the season a large group of members played in the Friday Fun League and the winner was Christine Wiltshire.
In early August, we hosted the President’s Men v the President’s Ladies and the weather couldn’t have been better. The match was followed by a very substantial tea organised by Dianne Sherwin and her group of helpers. This was enjoyed so much that we have been asked to host it again next year!
Nettleham Bowls Club members take part in 5 leagues and there were mixed fortunes this season. Congratulations to the Thursday afternoon ‘B’ team who won their division and now move up to join the ‘A’ team in City of Lincoln section A. Unfortunately, the evening team have been relegated to section ‘C’ in their league. Many thanks must go to all the players who have supported their team captains throughout the season.
The final event of the season was the Annual Presentation Dinner held recently at Hemswell Court. The venue, food and entertainment were excellent and special thanks to our chairman Derek Kilby for his excellent organisation.
We now look forward to April 2017 when the new season will start. Have you ever considered taking part in an outdoor sport? Bowling provides a healthy, physical outdoor activity as well as the opportunity to meet and socialise with other members. You don’t need any previous experience – just lots of enthusiasm and some flat soled shoes!
